From the moment I started reading “Once Upon a Broken Heart” by Stephanie Garber, I was transported into a world where love, curses, and the quest for a happily ever after collide in the most enchanting way.

Evangeline Fox, the protagonist, believes in true love and happy endings. But her heart shatters when she learns that the love of her life is set to marry someone else.

Desperate to stop the wedding and heal her broken heart, she strikes a deal with the charming yet wicked Prince of Hearts, Jacks. He agrees to help her in exchange for three kisses, to be given at times and places of his choosing.

However, after Evangeline’s first promised kiss, she realizes the danger of bargaining with an immortal. Jacks has far grander plans for her than she could have ever imagined, setting her on a path that could lead to either the greatest happily ever after or the most exquisite tragedy.

This book captivated me from the first chapter. The world Garber creates is phenomenal, leaping off the pages with its magical essence. I found myself completely immersed, unsure of what was real, yet entranced by its beauty. The characters fascinated me, and I fell in love with each of them, despite the hidden darkness lurking in the corners of the story.

Evangeline’s journey resonated deeply with me. Her pain and desperation to stop the wedding of her true love, who was set to marry her stepsister, drew me in.

Her determination led her to make a fateful deal with Jacks, and the outcome was beyond anything she could have anticipated.

Her tenacity, strength, and ability to see the good in others endeared her to me. I rooted for her cleverness and her quest for happiness, especially since she often felt so alone.

Jacks, on the other hand, was a complex character. His humor and charisma made me laugh at the most unexpected moments, and I couldn’t help but fall for him.

Yet, he remained an enigma, with glimpses of hope and moments where Evangeline made him pause. I sensed that Evangeline helped him see himself as more than just a wicked Prince, and my heart ached for him.

Their interactions were electric. Jacks would mess with Evangeline, changing the tune of their story, and I loved every moment of it. But his actions often left me questioning his motives. He was a mystery I wanted to unravel, and every time he called Evangeline “Little Fox,” my heart melted.

The twists and mysteries in this book kept me on my toes. I trusted no one except Evangeline, even as I yearned to trust Jacks.

The side characters, especially Lala, added depth and intrigue to the story. The blend of prophecies, truths, and fairy-tales created a magical atmosphere that swept me away.

“Once Upon a Broken Heart” is a beautifully crafted story that will leave you longing for more. The ending was tricky and left me desperate for the next book.
