So, I finally read Agatha Christie’s renowned masterpiece, Murder on the Orient Express.
It was quite the experience! Without any prior exposure to adaptations, I embarked on this journey with only the knowledge that a murder takes place aboard a train.
The plot of Murder on the Orient Express is incredibly intriguing and complex. The victim, an American named Ratchett, is found murdered, prompting Poirot, accompanied by Monsieur Bouc, to unravel the mystery.
Interestingly, the focus isn’t solely on the crime itself but rather on Poirot’s methodical investigation.
Much of the narrative consists of individual interviews, which I found akin to watching a suspenseful film rather than reading a book.
It added a cinematic flair to the storytelling, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This format also helped me stay engaged and immersed in the unfolding events.
While I appreciated the resolution of the mystery, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was somewhat predictable.
Whether this was due to the narrative structure or my own deductions, I can’t say for certain. Nevertheless, Poirot’s handling of the solution endeared him to me even more as a character.
Unlike Christie’s other works I’ve encountered, I didn’t feel particularly drawn to any specific character in Murder on the Orient Express.
The novel seemed more analytical, distancing me from the characters and their circumstances. It was an unusual sensation, but not altogether unpleasant.
Overall, I found Murder on the Orient Express to be a captivating read. Its departure from Christie’s typical style brought a refreshing change, and I particularly admired its structured approach.
For those yet to experience it, this classic crime novel is certainly worth exploring. Give it a chance; you won’t be disappointed.
